Description:

A small three star owner run luxury lodge nestled under the majestic Drakensburg Mountains. In a elegant and relaxed setting. This is an ideal base to explore the Limpopo Province and Kruger National Park. We are 38kms from Hoedspruit and are situated close to many adventure activities and self-drive sightseeing. Accommodation is in 4 Suites with great views on the mountains. Our lodge is home to a variety of non-dangerous plains game such as Giraffe, Wildebeest, Impala, Nyala Zebra and Kudu. Less common are Leopard, Bushbaby, Porcupine, Jackal, Pangolin, & Warthog. Explore our bush on foot with an experienced FGASA guide or in our safari vehicle to learn the secrets of the bush. We are a recognized Birding establishment and are on the Kruger to Canyon birding route. Our lodge which commands wonderful vistas of the Drakensburg Mountains is home to the Manoutsa Vulture Colony with up to 660 pairs of Cape Vulture. This is the fourth largest colony in the world. The Main lodge area has a tranquil plunge pool and shady veranda. Watch the sunset turn the Mountains into a rainbow of colour while sipping sundowners. Dine on great South African cusine under a dark velvet sky full of stars in our boma, on our veranda or in our well appointed candlelit dining room on cooler nights. Retire when the day is done to one of our four luxurious suites, secluded amongst the bush. Each suite is beautifully decorated and well appointed. A hospitality tray and mini bar is available for you to enjoy. The en-suite bathrooms have large oval baths and outdoor showers. All have beds with percale linen and all rooms are air conditioned and have fans. Toiletries and bathrobes are supplied and there is a turndown service in the evening.

Rates include Dinner Bed Breakfast If driving to our lodge from one of the main centres it is best to leave very early in the morning to avoid city traffic and to avoid arriving in the dark, our main roads often have potholes due to trucks and heavy seasonal rains. Should you international flight arrive in the afternoon can we suggest you stop over at one of the airport hotels and leave the next day. The trip from Johannesburg is 4 1/2 - 5 hours with a stop for lunch.

we can cater for up to 25 persons for a meeting not requiring overhead projector etc. though we can hire these for an additional cost or the company booking may bring their own. Please send an enquiry with your needs and we will quote you. Please note that we are unable to accommodate all 25 persons.

Things to do:

While staying with us you will be able to go for an evening safari to see our plains game, learn about our flora, fauna and bird life. There also will be a chance to have sundowners and snacks from a view point. If you are feeling more enegetic our resident guide will take you for a nature walk. Trips to a big five private reserve can be arranged where one is may see Leopard, Lion. Elephant, Buffalo and Rhino. Self drives to the Panorama to see God's window, Bridal Falls, Lisbon Falls, Bourke's Potholes and the Blyde River Canyon. Kruger National Park are close by, book a breakfast on the go to take with you. thare are also many other attractions. One could stay at least 4-5 days to see all. There is a lovely pool for a refreshing dip at the main lodge area and one can relax around the pool with refreshments. We also have an extensive library on many wildlife subjects, information on the area as well as some non-fiction, cards and board games.

Local Attractions:

Kruger National Park A must see, largest big five park in South Africa. Please ask reception for the best drives and scenic routes to enjoy the Kruger Park to its fullest. We can arrange a full packed breakfast that can be cooked on a gas grill, hired from one of the picnic site +/- R15.00. They are known as skottels and are used extensively by South Africans. A FGASA guide can accompany you at an additional cost. The Blyde River Canyon (meaning River of Joy) This route will takes one on a breathtaking journey though the mountains, Blyde River Canyon is the third largest canyon in the world. On route one can stop at well know view points such as: Three Rondavels, Bourkes Luck Potholes, Gods Window & various waterfalls. Entrance at the Potholes is R25.00pp Panorama Route (on the R532.) On can visit the following Three Rondavels, Bourkes Luck Potholes, God’s Window. Visit these and various wonderful waterfalls such as The Bridal Veil Falls, the Lone Creek Waterfall and Horseshoe Falls, they can all be reached from the scenic forest track along the south bank of the Sabie River.. Pilgrims Rest an old gold rush village, visit the Robbers Grave, Pilgrim's Rest is situated on the magnificent Panorama Route on the eastern Escarpment region of the Mpumalanga province of South Africa. The entire town of Pilgrims rest has been declared a national monument and many of the rooms are now an annex of the Royal Hotel. Here, visitors can relive the days of the old Transvaal gold rush. Shop for souvenirs, visit the Robbers Grave and see panning for gold. A good days outing. Sabie Valley Coffee Lunch and see how coffee is produced. Tours on Wednesdays or by appointment, they have a shop where one can buy coffee and coffee related products. Also a Cafe for light lunches Meet Jessica the Hippo Drive towards Hoedspruit and on the left take the turning to Essex Road, the sign for Jessica is also at this turning. she is quite famous having been in a major film. Bombyx Silk Farm Excellent place for lunch. Silk Tours (free).Only the second silk farm in South Africa. Gives one an understanding as to how the silk is used. REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD VISIT SOUTH AFRICA 1. You can drink our tap water (at ours and most places, anyway). 2. You can see Lions, Leopards, Elephants, Giraffe, Rhino and Crocodile in the wild (and lots, LOTS more the Kruger Park is a MUST!!!!). 3. South Africa has the longest wine route in the world, the R62 wine route 4. The Tugela Falls is the second highest waterfall in the world, where the water tumbles down 850 metres. First place goes to the Angel Falls in Venezuela at 979 metres. 5. Blyde River Canyon is the third largest canyon in the world and the largest green one. The Grand Canyon in the US is the biggest, and the Fish River Canyon in Namibia the second. 6. South Africa has some of the best reefs in the world for scuba diving. 7. We have really good weather. Really, really good weather!!! Especially in the Limpopo Lowveld in winter! 8. Pretoria has the second largest number of embassies in the world after Washington, D.C. 9. The only street in the world to house two Nobel Peace prize winners is in Soweto. Nelson Mandela and Archbishop Desmond Tutu both have houses in Vilakazi Street in Soweto. 10. South Africa houses one of the three largest telescopes in the world at Sutherland in the Karoo.

Getting There:

FROM: * OR Tambo International Airport: Take the signs from the airport to Pretoria, you will be on the R21 then take the N12 to Witbank continue on this highway past Middleburg and get off at the Belfast off-ramp turn left and go through Belfast go through one set of traffic lights until you get to the 4way stop you will see the Royal Belfast hotel at this turning, turn to the right At the next corner turn left and continue until you pass a pancake bar on a corner then at the next road turn right and continue on to Dullstroom continue through this village (great for lunch)on the R36 & head for Lydenburg (Mashisheng) approximately 112 kilometers, You will come to a T-Junction and take the left turning into Lydenburg (Mashisheng) continue on & turn left at the second traffic lights next to a blue shopping centre. Continue on this road & go over two 4way stops at the 3rd stop you will see a cream shopping centre with a pub opposite on your left, turn right at this stop & continue on over two cross roads, when you see an old church on your right, turn left look for the sign to Ohrigstad this is a turning to the right, continue on this road to the very small village of Ohrigstad. After awhile you will pass a turning to Graskop & start to go over the Abel Erasmus Pass, & through the J G Strydom Tunnel, after this you will be descending into the Lowveld from here we are approximately 8kms on the right-hand side. Black entrance wall & large tree Our gate is locked for security you will need to press the gate intercom for reception to gain access. *Johannesburg: Travelling by car from Johannesburg is four and a half hours at legal driving speeds and no stops.. This is 120 kilometers unless otherwise stated. Black entrance wall & large tree. Our gate is locked for security you will need to press the gate intercom for reception to gain access. *Timbavati, Kapama & Thornybush Head straight on the Argyle road on the way out of the Timbavati until you get to a t-junction turn right onto the R40. This road takes a bend to a T-junction turn right here onto the R531* you will then go under a train bridge and pass a filling station. Continue until you reach another t-junction turn left onto the R527 to Lydenburg this road changes to the R36 after the turning to Tzaneen where you will find a filling station, pass this and we are approximately 3kms further down the road on the left, Black entrance wall and large tree. Our gate is locked for security you will need to press the gate intercom for reception to gain access. *Southern Reserves Sabi Sands etc Take a right turn from the road out of the reserves onto the R40. Continue through Acornhoek and Bushbuckridge.. DO NOT take the right turning to Hoedspruit after these towns, but continue on straight as this road becomes the R531 *See above from red asterix. Phalaborwa & Phalaborwa Kruger Park Gate, Letaba Camp. Northern Kruger camps From Letaba Camp take the Phalaborwa Gate carry on this road (R71) until you get to the R530 turn left onto the R40 and carry on for +/- 5kms then turn right back on to the R530. Take this road to at th t junction turn left onto the R36 continue on this road after a bridge over the Olifants River continue until you get to a t-junction where there is a filling station on your left turn right here to towards Lydenburg ,we are approximately 3 kms on the left hand side.
